How to Be a Boss 101

What self-employed person hasn’t found themselves on Indeed late at night looking at desk jobs, wondering “Would this be easier?”

Or thought, “MAYBE I SHOULD JUST BE A BARISTA AND CALL IT A DAY.” Show up, clock in, do the tasks that someone else has laid out for you, go home, forget the world.

Freedom can feel suffocating. You’re “always” working. Battling shiny object syndrome. Wondering if your brand should have a Snapchat presence.

What if “being your own boss” DOESN’T mean doing whatever you want, whenever you want?

If you’ve ever longed for the days of simply following directions so your brain can REST, you gotta boss up, bish!

The ultimate test of BOSSERY is whether you can follow your OWN directions. This is what strategy is and how strategy WORKS. It’s fun to create the plan, but then ya gotta actually DO ITTTTTTTT.

Show up, clock in, do the tasks that YOU LAID OUT, then HELL YES! Close your laptop and forget the world.

Self-employment doesn’t mean you’re BOSSLESS. You still gotta listen to the boss. Only the boss is YOU. The you that created the strategy in the first place. (Not the you who just bought a house and wants to ditch the plan and spend the afternoon searching for colorful mid century modern lamps on Wayfair. Just an example. Not something I actually did…yesterday.)

To BE the boss, you gotta LISTEN to the boss. Follow the plan you laid out.

The unsexy parts. The grunt work. The boring stuff you can’t put in your Insta story.

There’s a bit of RELIEF in this realization, no? You don’t have to INVENT your job again, day after day. You CAN just sit down and follow directions and let it be easy.

So, why are ya second guessing the boss?
