Rachael Kay Albers, workshop facilitator and theater artist

What:
Bring together a group of Girls Shift Africa grassroots community leaders, as well as talented Awakeneers from around the world, to facilitate a theater-based creative problem solving workshop with primary school girls age 11-15 at the Tudor Primary School. The workshop’s goal is to use art and drama to discover and explore solutions to every day issues experienced in the girls’ lives, homes, and communities.

Why:
This workshop aims to introduce new methods for raising community awareness around issues such as gender violence, discrimination, sexual rights, body image etc—using theater and storytelling to encourage participants to take an active role in shaping their lives and their communities . At the same time, the Girls Shift Africa team will learn essential leadership and organizing techniques, so they can continue to integrate arts and theater-based strategies in their future work with girls and young women in Kenya.

How Much Does It Cost:
Your airfare and transportation to Mombasa, visa, health and other associated expenses + approximately $300 ($30/day) for accommodations, food, and local transport. We also ask that each Awakeneer pledges a specific fundraising goal to be determined in communication with Naraya and Fei-zy to help Girls Shift Africa grow and expand.
